Early changes rarely hurt.
Because the first signs are typically a painless patch or ulcer, they're easy to dismiss. Survival rates improve dramatically when a lesion is identified and referred at that stage.
Screening takes a couple of minutes, involves no needles or dye, and gives you real reassurance. If we see anything that doesn't look right, we'll arrange an urgent hospital referral for you.
Warning signs to act on.
Any of the following lasting more than three weeks should be checked:
- 01An ulcer or sore that won't heal
- 02A red or white patch in the mouth
- 03A lump or thickening in the mouth or neck
- 04Unexplained bleeding or numbness
- 05Persistent hoarseness or sore throat
- 06Difficulty or discomfort when swallowing

A plan, not a quick fix.
We screen at every routine examination, photograph anything we want to monitor, review it after two weeks, and refer urgently to a maxillofacial specialist if a lesion persists.
