If your upper lip lifts high when you smile, several millimetres of gum can show above the teeth. A small dose of anti-wrinkle treatment relaxes the lip elevator muscles so the lip sits a little lower — a two-minute treatment with a noticeable effect.

1Why some smiles show more gum
A gummy smile can be caused by a hyperactive upper lip, short teeth, excess gum tissue, or the way the upper jaw has developed. Only the first responds to injectables.
As a dental practice we can assess all four causes properly — and if the answer is gum contouring, crown lengthening or restorative work, we'll say so.
2What to expect
Treatment is a single tiny injection either side of the nose. Results appear over a week and last around three to four months.
We start conservatively; too much relaxation can affect speech and lip movement, so building up gradually is the safer approach.
