Downturned Mouth Treatment

Downturned mouth corners can make a relaxed face look tired or unhappy. Relaxing the muscle that pulls the corners down — sometimes with a little support from a hydrating filler — lets them sit in a more neutral, lifted position.

  • Softens a permanently downturned expression
  • Quick treatment with no downtime
  • Can be combined with marionette line support
  • Natural, gradual change over one to two weeks
  • Reversible as the effect wears off

Downturned Mouth Treatment — in detail

Downturned mouth corners can make a relaxed face look tired or unhappy. Relaxing the muscle that pulls the corners down — sometimes with a little support from a hydrating filler — lets them sit in a more neutral, lifted position.

1Why corners turn down

The depressor anguli oris muscle pulls the mouth corners downward. With age and loss of support around the jawline, it wins the tug of war more easily.

Treating that muscle allows the lifting muscles to rebalance the corner position.

2Combination approach

Where volume loss along the marionette lines is contributing, a small amount of support in that area gives a more complete result than muscle relaxation alone.

We'll assess your face at rest and in animation before recommending one, the other, or both.
