Yellow Teeth
Yellowing is one of the first things people notice about their smile — and one of the easiest things to put right. The key is knowing whether the colour sits on the surface or inside the tooth.

Surface stain and inner colour are different problems.
Surface staining from tea, coffee, red wine and smoking lifts away with professional cleaning. Deeper yellowing comes from the dentine showing through thinning enamel — that needs whitening, not scrubbing.
Shop-bought kits and charcoal pastes are either too weak to change deeper colour or abrasive enough to make it worse. We assess the cause first, then use dentist-supervised whitening at a strength that's both safe and effective.
What you might notice.
The signs vary, but most people notice one or more of these:
- 01An overall yellow or grey cast to your teeth
- 02Dark lines between the teeth
- 03Teeth that look duller in photographs
- 04One tooth darker than the rest
- 05Staining returning quickly after cleaning
- 06Whitening toothpaste making no difference
Where it comes from.
The most common culprits:
Don't wait it out.
Speak to your our practice dentist if you're experiencing any of the following — book an appointment as soon as you can:
- —Cleaning at home no longer brightens your teeth.
- —One tooth has darkened on its own.
- —You have an event coming up and want a plan.
- —You've tried a shop-bought kit with no result.
In discomfort right now?
Whitening shouldn't hurt. If your teeth are already sensitive, tell us — we'll settle that first and adjust the gel strength and wear time to keep you comfortable.
A plan, not a quick fix.
We'll check your teeth and gums are healthy, remove surface staining with a hygiene visit, then take impressions for custom whitening trays or plan veneers or bonding where whitening alone won't reach the shade you want.
