Tooth Extraction

We may recommend extraction if:

• The tooth is too badly decayed or fractured to repair
• There is severe gum disease loosening the tooth
• A wisdom tooth is impacted, infected or repeatedly causing problems
• An overcrowded mouth needs space for orthodontic treatment
• A baby tooth is preventing an adult tooth from coming through

We numb the tooth and surrounding gum thoroughly with local anaesthetic. You'll feel pressure but not pain. Most simple extractions take just a few minutes; more complex cases may take a little longer. After extraction we'll discuss the best way to replace the tooth — typically a dental bridge, dental implant or denture. Replacing missing teeth is important to maintain your bite, your facial appearance and the long-term health of the surrounding teeth.
